do not buy Nov 25, 2008
By delawaredrew The other reviewer had a entirely different experience than I. My version never worked from day one. It makes that horrible "drive about to fail" sound and will not burn anyting reliably.
It only identifies itself as a cd drive on my comp, and even then only burns a measly 225mb before giving up. I've tried multiple types of DVD's, from DVD rw to DVD-r to DVD+r, etc. Nothing works. ANd I work on comps for a living, no USB device should be this difficult; that is the point of usb.
ANd the unit was not recognized by this very modern laptop, the install software froze repeatedly and finally froze the whole laptop up several times. I've always loved my LG phones but this unit is garbage. I only give it one star becasue amazon will not allow zero
Nice alternative to buying labels all of the time Mar 18, 2011

I had absolutely no problems with this DVD burner. Mainly, I wanted to eliminate having to burn labels onto DVD's. The only drawback to this is that if you use the high quality setting, it does take a good 5-10 minutes to get one label burned. In all fairness, I burned a very intricate image into the disks as well and I'm sure that took a lot longer.
After we had it awhile, we also used it to copy and burn CD tracks onto blank media inserted into our internal DVD burner. It's nice having 2 drives for that purpose.
I take all reviews with a grain of salt because in the past I found that some people didn't thoroughly read instructions before using something. Figured that had to be the case because when set up and used per directions, I didn't experience the same trouble.
My experience with this unit was positive.

Bought one of these about 18 months ago to replace an HP drive that had thankfully bit the dust. I say thankfully because had it not I would never have known how good this drive is. Since I got it I have burned at least 500 discs with it and the failure rate is so low it barely rates mentioning (about 1% or 1 in 100).
Bottom line= if you are looking then you have found what you are looking for.
One other word of advice, you may get by with cheap single layer DVD's but do not try it with dual layer. Buy good ones. And by that I mean Verbatim.

This burner isn't the fastest but it does what I need it to do for the most part. I would say the thing that I don't like about it is it didn't come with the full version of Nero 7. I had to buy that. Other then that it does what I need it to do.

By Marco Kasel I work a lot with video so my DVD burners get a lot of use. This LG burner is cheap and has worked well for me. I use this with a Mac so I never use the software that comes with these things. The only issue I have with these burners is the eject button. Once the tray is open, the button is hidden and you have to reach under the tray to push it to get the tray to close. Who designed this? It's just stupid.
I'm sure there are better burners out there but this one came cheap. No regrets.
