Definately Love Feb 21, 2010 Out of the box a greet product. Asus is always the name to look for when buying PC components. A fingerprint magnet though.

After nearly 1 year of use still a great machine! Feb 19, 2010 I bought this computer almost a year ago intending it to be merely a secondary advice for school work and Japanese language study. I had read many reviews stating that netbooks can't handle much more than one thing at a time and frankly I have no idea what they are talking about. My 1000HE soon became my primary computer used for almost everything.
The key to this computer is learning how to maximize the limited hardware. If you want to doll it up with all sorts of bloatware and fancy but useless applications then yes it will be a very slow running machine. However, if you learn how to remove bloatware, turn off useless background services that 99% of users will never need, switch XP's to "adjust for best performance" mode, and use efficient programs for video playback/virus protection/etc, the 1000HE will do FAR more than stated in most reviews.
In fact as I type this review I am running multiple firefox tabs with a standard def youtube video playing AND an additional MP4 720p movie file playing in the background from hard drive at full screen. Yes you read that correctly. No overclocking, and simply running a 2GB ram stick. This was done by simply optimizing the out of the box system and installing efficient software (KMplayer with appropriate codecs for video play back BTW).
The 1000HE won't play full screen Flash HD (don't get this confused with HD video from your hard drive), it won't run many semi-modern games well, and you won't be doing any hardcore video/photo editing but for general use it is a wonderful machine for the price. Great battery life, a truly excellent screen (better than most laptops 2-3 times its prices except for the lower resolution), good keyboard, and good enough track pad.
Even though the 1000HE is older and probably higher priced than it should be compared to newer models I would say it should still be considered based on 1. The matte screen it uses. It is far superior in real world use when compared to just about any other netbook or laptop screen I've ever used. Most of the others Asus EEE's have switched to inferior gloss screens and 2. The 1000HE is very proven and very reliable. Asus in general is arguably the most reliable netbook/laptop manufacturer and the 1000HE seems to even be a standout among it's own brand peers in this regard.
GREAT Feb 13, 2010 Great for the value! Portable, easy to tote around in school and in airports. It takes a lot of abuse- i throw my laptop bag around a lot! Good programming is included but its still very basic. You'll need to purchase Word and etc.

Fantastic netbook Feb 12, 2010 I got one of these a few months ago to go along with the 901 I have and the 1002ha my wife has. I think this is probably the best all around netbook I have seen. It's a little heavier than my other netbooks, but it's got a huge hard drive and tremendous battery life (it's not exactly 9.5 hours--get real!--but it is still a good 6.5-7 "real world" hours, which is amazing in itself). And it has really great wifi performance. It also has a slightly newer cpu, the Atom 280 as opposed to the Atom 270. Unfortunately, it's on the way out of production as Asus introduces its newer "seashell" design netbooks. But there are a few reasons to prefer these older models:
First, the newer models are not really any faster or more powerful.
And second, the new "seashell" case makes it a lot harder to make any modifications to the innards. On the 1000 series (including the 1000 and the 1000he, among others), replacing the ram and the hard disk is a simple matter of a few screws. Even a technical incompetent like myself can easily handle it.
One of the great features of this older generation of netbooks is that they are VERY user serviceable. This means that not only can you keep them going longer, but you can change them to suit your needs as they evolve.
Most people get netbooks for occasional use and for traveling (and they're GREAT for that). But everyone I know who has tried them, has eventually made them into their ONLY computer. That's what happened in my house. Unless you're an IT professional, and really need all the processing power of a modern desktop pc, you're probably like me and only need a computer for email, surfing, word processing, photo and music management. If so, your netbook will replace all your other computers.

Awesome little computer Feb 09, 2010 I've had my Eee PC for about 6 months now and I love it. It's small and it lasts forever - I use it daily for lecture notes and its great for long plane trips as I can watch up to three movies without recharging it! Anyways - the main reason I wanted to write this review is to tell you just how DURABLE this computer is.
I ran it over with my car... and it still works fine.
