5Terrific buy  Dec 03, 2010 By D. C.
This is an amazing little netbook. Although it comes with the stripped-down Windows 7 Starter, it is fairly straightforward to upgrade. I upgraded to W7 Ultimate, although I'm sure Home Premium would be fine. With a full-powered OS, you can take advantage of the fact that the AMD CPU supports up to 4G. I just upgraded to a 4G 1333Mhz sodimm that just blazes. Be aware that a 32-bit OS can only address a little more than 3GB, but it's still worth it. The presence of the HDMI port in a netbook is amazing. To really take advantage of the HDMI port, you really have to upgrade the OS--I couldn't get Starter to support an extended desktop, which kind of defeats the purpose of HDMI for me. Buy this with the assumption that you want to expand it almost immediately, and you'll be pleased. A small caution to those who want to expand the RAM: it appears, at first, difficult to remove the memory cover after loosening the screw. The clips are a little stiffer than one would expect, and it takes a fairly nervewracking application of force to get it off. I've done it twice (once to check the memory type, once to do the install), and once you know what to expect, it's no big deal.

5Great little netbook. Running Fine no problems  Feb 21, 2011 By Skyislander
I purchased two units for myself and my wife and have had them for nearly two weeks. I have had no problems with heating or anything that was mentioned by the negative reviewer. I also upgraded the memory to 2 gigs but I found the removal of the memory compartment very straightforward. I used the dull, flat-end tool of my pocket knife to easily snap out the memory cover after I unscrewed the single screw. I still run the starter edition of Windows 7-- I use RAMdisk and together with Windows 7's Readyboost on a 8 meg memory card in the SD slot, I think it's pretty snappy. I installed MS Office 2010 Pro and it runs fine. I installed iTunes and editing software for converting vinyl to MP3.... haven't tried it out, yet. I got this model because I researched the pro's and con's of the AMD athlon v105 vs. the Intel atom n450 and the reviews were favorabl towards the AMD CPU. I like nvidia graphics but it would have cost over 100 bucks more to get a netbook with an nvidiea graphics chipset. AMD bought ATI a couple years back and hopefully some of that technology is in the cpu. I also love the 3 USB ports, the HDMI port, a built in web cam with mic, integrated wireless, LAN, and an SD card-slot. Totally happy with the purchase. You can also get a color selection so five stars on the vanity factor-- my wife picked red for Valentine's Day.... all I could say was "yes Dear!"

3ASUS Eee PC 1015T-MU17 Netbook  Jan 07, 2011 By Y. Gong
I was looking for a netbook that can balance battery life with video performance. I believe this netbook meets my needs. I can stream Hulu video smoothly. The battery life is long enough for, say, a school day. It is nicely designed, light; has USB2/3 and HDMI (not used it, yet).

There people who thinks windows 7 starter is too light, I have not had the need to upgrade it. But the 1G memory is not enough. The onboard video uses 256M, not much left for the OS. After I replaced it with a 2G memory, thing runs much smoother.

One issue I have with this netbook is its wireless network. I spend a lot of time on it but the LAN access is not working. WAN is ok. I can get 2MB to the outside. But the LAN only gives me around 20KB. I see a lot DUP ACK, way over 3. It got be the wireless adapter driver. My other wireless device works on the same network. I even bought a USB adapter, it works fine too with this netbook. I have tried many versions of the driver, including the one from ASUS, nothing works. Browse the web, streaming video from the web is fine. But if you want to stream video from you own server, that might not work.

As a side note, I found WAP/AES put least load to the CPU.

5great little laptop  Jun 01, 2011 By John K
when windows is completely upgraded (this takes a VERY long time) and all the bloatware is removed, the computer is very quick for web surfing and light program use (i did not upgrade any of the hardware either). I am very pleased and it was definitely money well spent.

4Turned me on to netbooks  Mar 06, 2011 By ewitkows "iamwiggy"
I have to say, I was never hot on the whole netbook idea. I always figured that if I was to pay an extra 150 bucks, I can get a whole laptop rather than a netbook. However my wife was always lugging around the laptop, and something a little more portable was definately required around the house.. so I picked up the Asus eee pc 1015T.

For starters, for under 300 bucks, this thing is great. The netbook has a nice, solid feel. Keys are all a good size, so I dont ever find myself "fat fingering" while I type. Only downside here is that you dont have a full 0-9 keypad like you do on larger displays.. but this thing is meant to be compact. ATI Radeon graphics are definately a nice feature, the screen resolution is really good, and you can definately see yourself watching movies\videos... I heard the graphics are good enough for gaming.. but I have yet to play games on it. Battery life has been good so far, just under 4 hours, which is more than plenty for browsing between the baby's naps.

I only gave it 4 out of 5 stars for one reason, only 1 GB of RAM. Yes, Win 7 will run on 1 GB... just like my microwave will heat up a steak. Fortunately, a 2 GB stick of SODIMM memory can be found on the Internet for less than $35 bucks.. but you may want to browse similar netbooks with 2 GB memory for a price check if this is a serious option for you. You dont need the 2 GB, but there are times the netbook can get a littly laggy.

Ultimately the ASUS EEE PC line is highly recommended, if you pick up one of these things you can definately understand why, and if youve never owned a netbook before (like me), I think this little machine will definately turn you into a believer.
