Good bang for my buck May 18, 2011
By K. Reynolds I purchased this netbook specifically for writing. I didn't need anything super-powered. My primary concerns were battery life, boot time, and keyboard size. Having said that...
Keyboard: I love the size. I'd been looking at 13.3-inch laptops but this one was a great compromise. My fingers fly across this keyboard with ease.
Screen: I was surprised by the quality of the screen. Nice and bright. Movies look great on this. The 720P resolution turn out great for writing. There's just enough room for everything I need on screen (main text body in the center, list of chapters on the left, and online dictionary/thesaurus tools on the right).
Battery Life: Having seen this netbook running Ubuntu, I can say for certain that Ubuntu squeezes at least 60 extra minutes out of the battery, if not two hours. However, I still get a solid five to six hours in Windows 7, and I haven't dug into services to turn off stuff I don't need (except for Indexing).
Weight: As advertised, but one thing took me some getting used to. If you are sitting in a chair with this netbook in your laptop, say across your thighs, the weight of the screen wants to pull the netbook away from you. At first, it may feel like the netbook is going to tumble over your knees to the floor, but it won't go anywhere. The front of the base will indeed lift up and away from your legs if you're sitting just the right angle on a chair, but it won't fall. Having said that, only one of the many chairs in my house does this (it has absolutely no tilt, the chair is perfectly level). This didn't bother me, and doesn't warrant me reducing the rating. Otherwise, it's light but has enough weight to still feel sturdy.
Heat: The hard disk sits under the right half of the keyboard, and you can feel the heat of it if your disk IOs are up. It's not the searing heat that some of the bigger laptops can generate on your legs, but its noticeable. Doesn't bother me enough to really care though.
Performance: This surprised the heck out of me. This netbook runs World of Warcraft: Cataclysm just fine. I can't raid with it, and I don't think I trust the framerate enough for 5-man heroics, but this thing is great for questing and running dailies. I hadn't set out to find a netbook worthy of WoW, but I got one. Very, very nice surprise indeed. I run WoW on the lowest preset video settings, with a couple of specific settings pushed up a notch, such as projected textures and partical quality/density (can't remember if it's quality or density, but anyway).
Durability: The lid is solidly built. I never feel like I'm putting too much pressure on the outside cover. The bottom feels like cheap plastic, and yeah, it is, but it's solid cheap plastic. It doesn't bend under your fingers when you pick it up like some models do.
One final note: Yes, I really wanted to be able to put a solid state drive in this, but yes, I knew going in that you can't really get into the guts of this thing without damaging it, so this limitation doesn't negatively impact my review. This netbook was not designed to be taken apart, at all. If you try it, you'll very likely damage the case. However, I threw in a 2GB SD card and enable ReadyBoost. The performance boost from that is enough to tide over my craving for an SSD. If you want to put an SSD in your netbook without worrying about tearing it up during the install, don't buy this one.
In regards to other reviews of this netbook, I have one thing to say here: If you knew in advance that the hard drive was not user-replaceable and you still bought this netbook, don't review it poorly based on your poor judgement. Your poor judgement and lack of product research is not fair to the product.

Great Value Mar 19, 2011
By Jeffrey Liss I wanted a light, ultraportable notebook that I could carry around with me on my summer trips, but I did not want to sacrifice poor performance or pay a lot of money for this. I did lots of research and decided upon this netbook for a number of reasons: 1. The ATI Radeon Graphics Card (4250) would allow me to have no problem streaming MLB games and Netflix videos. 2. Windows Home Premium (instead of starter) was loaded on the unit. 3. 2GB of DDR3 Ram 4. Strong Wirelesas (B/G/N) Atheros Adapter. 5. The AMD Neo Chip (1.7GHZ) was much faster than the Intel ION Processer. 6. HDMI port to hook up to my Sony Bravia HDTV. 7. 3 USB Ports 8. Only 3.21 pounds.
I've owned this so-called netbook for 3 days and it is almost as fast as my 2 other laptops (desktop replacements), which cost 3 times more than this unit.
What I didn't like:
1.There was some bloatware on this unit, which I had to research to find out what function it performed before I removed it. 2. It was difficult for me to vertically scroll down. I resolved this by going into the settings on the Synaptics Pointing Device - Wheel - Roll the Wheel one notch to scroll - and changed it to one screen at a time. This made vertical scrolling much easier. 3. The battery only began charging after it fell below 95%. No big deal I suppose.
I wanted a light ultraportable notebook for fast mobile web browsing. The price was right and so far performance is very good.

Small yet powerful. Feb 12, 2011
By EJF III Look, don't expect a powerful computer that will run a office, but for what it is, it is perfect. The reason why I bought this laptop was because it was small, lightweight, and yet powerful enough and fast enough to get daily tasks done. I basically use the laptop to surf the internet, write documents, and do anything while I am watching tv or just hanging out. It is small enough to sit on the couch with.
Pros: Small and lightweight Fast enough for daily, ad hoc tasks Keyboard isn't as crunched as a normal netbook. It is comfortable to type Huge hard drive 4 hour battery life Charges quickly
I don't really have any cons. I did a lot of research before I bought this computer, so it is exactly what I wanted and I don't have any problems with it yet. I don't need 3 GB of RAM, 2 GB is more than enough. 320 GB hard drive is plenty. I have a desktop computer that has a 150 GB hard drive. I have had this computer for 5 years and it isn't even half full.
Summation: Perfect laptop. If you aren't expecting a mainframe, this is perfect for traveling and while computing on the couch.

Nice netbook Jan 10, 2011
By Jeffery A. Braumberger I got this netbook for Christmas and right way notice a key was broken. Called Asus and they told me to send it back (at my cost)and we'll replace the keyboard. So I thought how long it would take and decided I would deal with Amazon instead. So I filled out the necessary forms on the website order and new one within 24 hrs the new computer was in hand and ready to go.
I loaded Unbuntu AMD/64 32 bit will not work. Everything worked right out of the box. I was completely satisfied that a Linux distribution worked without installation of additional drivers.
Here are some pros and cons...
Pros
Overall size is perfect. The display is great and I can even plug into my HD television and watch streaming video. Pretty good quality HDMI port is a must Processor speed is good Lite Battery life is approx 4 hrs. give or take.
Cons
Keyboard is soft - I like the feel of a solid keyboard AC adapter into the netbook is very fragile - be very careful when plugging.
Overall I very please with the performance of the computer and love the fact that Linux works so well.

Best one of 8 different computers May 26, 2011
By Robert A. Ponto I have and use 2 Dell, 1 HP, 1 generic desktops and two 15" HP's and a 12" Averatec laptops. This little beauty is faster, better and easier to use than any of them. I have had it 5 months now and use it with an external monitor in place of my main desktop. I use it primarily when traveling and it is useable in direct sunlight, albeit a little tough. My old ones had to have a sun shield just to use in daylight, much less sunlight. The LED back light does not seem very bright at first, but does not have to be to see it in bright light. I don't know if it is Win7 or the computer, but it is many times faster than my 3.3ghz dual core Pentium running XP. It never gets hot and the fan is inaudible. I have found nothing to complain about yet. I LOVE IT!!!
