2 weeks in, doing great Jul 01, 2010 Only owned the thing for 2 weeks, but so far, so good.
Good Stuff:
-Haven't let it stay on for 7 hours straight, but it looks like w/ brightness at minimum it could probably make 7 hours. Just took it on a car trip, and battery life wasn't a problem.
-I have no issues whatsoever with the touch pad. The texture makes you realize when you accidentally move off the pad, and I didn't find it "sticky" or irritating to use at all. Some also complained about the click bar being hard to click. There is one bar for both left and right clicking, so there is a "pivot" point in the middle that is very difficult to click. Just press closer to the edges. Synaptics "ipod-style" scrolling is great once you get the hang of it, but I also downloaded the newest software from the Synaptics site to let me do 2-finger scrolling. Both work well and I use them both regularly, depending on the distance I need to scroll.
-Windows 7 has been good to me so far. (coming from XP)
-Very pretty, very light.
-LONG power cords. Awesome.
-Performance: Great. I installed Photoshop CS3 and Flash CS4, and both run without a hitch, even simultaneously. Haven't tried installing any real videogames on the thing yet (screen is so small, not sure how enjoyable it would be), but the preloaded games already there run fine, and a few 2D games I've downloaded work fine as well.
Weird Stuff:
-ASUS must have had to use a dump-truck to load all that useless... crud... onto my computer. At least 20 programs with ASUS in the name were already present, and there were several other useless programs more confusingly named. It was very difficult to decide which I should remove. I ended up removing most of them through the control panel, except for "AI recover" (seemed actually NOT-useless, but haven't used it yet), and the "control panel," which allows you to adjust all you brightness, volume, and battery-type stuff in one place.
-The quoted 250 GB is split between two drives, one called "OS," (50 GB) and one called "DATA" (200 GB). Not really an issue, but the desktop is located within "OS," so no putting giant files on your desktop. I think when a program is installed, it uses "OS" space, but I don't know. It is still a mystery to me whether there are actually two physical drives in this computer, or one partitioned drive. I'm unclear on the reason they would do either. Again, not really an issue, but still kinda weird.
-Remember, no CD/DVD drive. Allows computer to be slimmer and lighter, but to install software you will either need to download it, or use an external optical drive. You probably don't want to buy this computer for watching DVDs in the car, unless you want a big external dvd drive hanging off it that whole time.
There doesn't seem to be much out there in the way of cases for this size of computer, but I found this one:
"Kensington K62569US SP12 12-inch Neoprene Sleeve for Notebook Computers (Black)"
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001M4HXT4/
and it's working great.
So, two weeks in, *5/5*
Hope it doesn't break after 366 days.
excelent Jun 29, 2010 ASUS UL20A-A1 Thin and Light 12.1-Inch Silver Laptop - 7.5 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Home Premium)
A very good and comfortable leptop.
Fantastic little companion for a road warrior Jun 20, 2010 I bought this laptop specifically to function as a personal laptop, I have separate Lenovo that i use for work and it has been a very good companion. I use it mostly as a carry about around the house and watch videos on it, do a lot of browsing and recently been watching the World Cup 2010 live stream and in this capacity it is a champ. I have been surprised by the performance of the su7300 processor, there has hardly ever been any lag or cause for complaint. It also has seen some rough and tumble while travelling with me, i do week long trips for work. I must say it is a tough little laptop. The only con is the mouse button on the laptop, you really have to give it a good press for it to work. But the the rest including the screen and the keyboard have held up and are a joy to use. I haven't exactly measured battery life, but with daily around the house use, i get about 4 hours of battery life, although i must mention that i do not use the bloat-ware that Asus bundles with the laptop and have long since replace the OS with a copy of stock Windows 7.

thin, strong, fast and with a great battery Jun 04, 2010 No disk drive and powerful speakers for the size but hopefully if you're buying a little computer like this you don't expect these things. Everything else is excellent - fantastic little computer.

Great Computer Jun 01, 2010 I basically use the computer for web browsing and email so it's not taxed too much. It's very fast and I have had no issues with it. It's very light and east to carry around while traveling.
