eek! the mouse is terrible! Mar 08, 2010 love everything about this machine and all that came with it. except the mouse. developing carpal tunnel syndrome within hours, i now travel with a wireless usb mouse. it's awful. the button is stiff as hell, and the touch pad is dodgy. otherwise, i dig it. just plan to travel with accessory.
Good balance between power & battery life Mar 07, 2010 Purchased this laptop for school, but first wanted to try it out on a trip to Arizona using it with Microsoft Streets & Trips 2010 for navigating with a GPS. Contrary to some specs this laptop does not come with Bluetooth built in, you'll need to buy one of those new usb mini-plugin modules. We purchased two different brands of bluetooth plugins just in case and found both setup and functioned flawlessly during our trip. Screen is large enough to view most map details, even in night mode and the sound is very good.
The main reasons we purchased this model two months ago were for the battery life, the warranty(s) and that it came with a optical drive. Would of preferred having the turbo version as we are used to quad cores on our home systems and while this thing is very fast on single process tasks, it can slow way down when we inadvertently multi-task three programs or more...which of course we can't blame the laptop for. The Wi-Fi has awesome range and is very fast, screen is crisp & clear, keyboard has a great feel to it and the battery holds it charge for eight to ten hours. We've found under heavy internet use the charge will only last six to seven hours, but that is most likely due to us setting the screen brightness to medium versus low to see the web pages better.
We've also noticed the touch pad is somewhat sensitive and will update the driver for that, although it isn't any worse than our Dell was. While the hinges seem very solid, the case feels just a little flimsy, but considering how lightweight this thing is we are very happy with the overall quality. Better half has used this laptop daily since it arrived, on quite a few days was even able to drain the battery, and only experienced two lockups in Win7 needing a reboot.
In summary: If you can break the mutlitasking habit of more than two programs running this laptop will outshine anything else out there, except the turbo models, in the battle between battery life and power.
Amazing battery life!! Feb 28, 2010 This is my first Asus computer after having a Sony, HP, Dell, and Acer. After reading many reviews, I ended up with this Asus basically because of the battery life. I never thought that I really cared much about battery life--my previous computers maxed out at 3 hours, but wow, does it really make a difference!! Often times I leave the computer on while going out to do my daily routine, and will come back in the evening and it still will have a few hours left of battery. At 10% battery, you have at least an hour left. I never feel concerned to bring my power cord, even on long haul airplane flights.
The only con is yes, the fingerprints, but it should be relatively easy to clean if it matters to you, but if you're like me and use the computer all the time, you would much prefer to be able to have your computer running with perhaps a few fingerprints then have it look nice but shut down! This computer is also one of the few computers I've ever seen that has a larger screen (the 10 and 11 in screens are just too small for proper viewing, and the keyboard cramped) with this long of battery life! I definitely, definitely recommend!

Very fast! Great Value! Feb 23, 2010 Great laptop and very fast. A really good value for a core 2 duo. I like that ASUS has changed the exterior to a brushed aluminum finish for this laptop. I have another ASUS laptop that has the piano black finish on the exterior and it is hard to keep looking nice.
The touch pad works fine for me -- I think I had read some previous reviews when I purchased that some people had problems; I haven't had any. The left-click is a little stiff and hard to click, but I think it is just my laptop, and I'll probably send it in for repair over spring break when I have time to go without the laptop for a few days. Also, the right front edge of the laptop "creaks" when I rest my hand on it to type; something to do with the case where the bottom portion meets the top portion. Again, this is likely a quality issue with my specific laptop that I will have taken care of when sent in for repair.
Overall, a VERY good laptop, especially for sub-$700 for a core 2 duo. Very light, easy to carry. Awesome battery life. Haven't formally kept track of how long the battery lasts from start to finish, but I'd say 8+ hours easy. Amazing for a laptop when I consider that my Sony Vaio that this replaced lasted 1 1/2 hours tops.
If you're considering this laptop, I'd say DO IT! Don't let the little problems I've had with mine deter you (left-click and creaky case) as they are likely just a quality issue with my specific laptop. I have another ASUS laptop (about six months older) and it has no problems and works just fine too.

Asus UL80A Feb 16, 2010 I've had this laptop for about 2 weeks now and I have to say that this is one of the bast laptops I have ever had. One of the things that you notice right away is the battery life. With my previous laptops I constantly had to check on the battery level to see if I had enough juice left but not with this one. The laptop is not heavy at all and it is extremely portable because of its size and weight. I am a student at WSU in Michigan and all my classes have the little tiny desks, and this laptop is just the perfect size. Some other great features that the laptop offers are the fast boot up, great display, stays nice and cool even after being on it for hours and hours. Overall I love the laptop. I have been in school all day since 10 this morning and it is now almost 8pm and I am still at 43% ( 5 hr 07 min)of battery. One thing that is kind of a pain is the sensitivity of the mouse pad but I got used to that in a day. Good job Asus, keep pumpin out these good laptops and you'll put hp, dell and gateway out of business in no time.
