Worthy Investment May 09, 2010 I purchased this laptop December of 2009. I went from a 4 year old 15.6 inch screen HP laptop to this Acer and I had my doubts, especially about performance and screen size but I felt I needed something a bit more portable for my college classes. Despite my concerns, I was not disappointed and extremely glad that I didn't buy another $1000 laptop.
- Screen is vivid, bright and incredibly sharp so the size really was not an issue as I thought it would be.
- Despite comments about not being able to differentiate the touch pad well from the rest of the computer, it really was not an issue and the touch pad is great with the multi gesture zooming and such.
- I'm able to run videos off of Fancast, Hulu, Youtube and Netflix perfectly, even the HD stuff. I often connect the laptop to my TV through the HDMI port and play movies on my TV without a problem. If you have a problem doing any of this, it might be the internet more so than the laptop. We have FIOS in our house.
-I got the free upgrade and Windows 7 makes all the difference. I absolutely hated Vista. So far, the computer has not froze on me or done anything weird.
-The chiclet style keyboard takes just a tiny bit of getting used to but after getting used to it, I absolutely loved it and now I can't type properly on my boyfriends laptop which has the "normal" keys that laptops usually come with.
-The laptop keeps relatively cool and I don't find myself needing a cooling pad very often.
-Multi tasking between a whole lot of office applications, surfing the web and listening to online music doesn't seem to slow the computer down much.
- The only con I can think of is that sometimes you are not able to adjust the screen brightness or the volume using the keyboard but you can still do it on the computer. A restart always fixes this little problem.
All in all, a great investment at about $400

ACER support is almost non-existent Apr 11, 2010 I purchased this laptop on the 13th of last December, as a Christmas gift for my 11 year old daughter. It ran about an hour before it randomly started freezing and rebooting. I spent a week trying to "fix it", BIOS updates, Windows 7 upgrade, patches, etc.
Trying to get "support" from Acer is a nightmare. But I did send it back for "repair", by the way if you want to keep the original box don't use it for shipping.
After their repair (replacing its memory) it came back and still rebooted and/or froze ... even while quietly sitting at the prom.
I blame myself for purchasing the Acer, I took a risk that I'd get a working system ... and I lost. As a computer engineer with 20+ years of experience I find it amazing that this company is still doing business ... it has to have the worst support known to man.
After the failed repair I got a phone number from Google and spoke to a live human to ask for a replacement. I was told that it is Acer's policy to NOT replace merchandise for any reason.
[...]
Really?
Update (Jun 2010)
After sending it back (again), and it's continuing erratic behavior, it was too much. It was still acting up, and my 12 year old daughter "accidentally" dropped it ... now the screen is cracked. Can't say it was much of a loss... well except for the money.
Great netbook with great features. Apr 07, 2010 I love this netbook. it came with windows Vista, however it had a free upgrade to Windows 7. one draw back is that it comes with lots of junk installed with takes memory and about 10 Gig of hard drive. Instead of upgrade to Windows 7, I did a clean install of windows 7. Now it runs a lot faster, takes less memory and I reclaimed a lot of disk space. Installation is easy and Windows 7 automatically discovers all devices and drivers. Clean install is way to go.
pros:
Fast single core processor
2 gig of ram more than enough to run any application
huge 250 gig hard drive
great web cam
Buy one and you will be impressed.

One can get better Price and Performance in today's market Mar 29, 2010 Ordered 8 of this computer for company. Two were defected with one which I had to return as I could not power it back up after turning off. Fragile casing which could break anytime.

Pleasantly Surprised! Mar 27, 2010 This Acer Aspire 1410 computer is perfect for us at ages 58 and 60. We had our son-in-law pick out something simple, wireless, and reasonably priced. He did an outstanding job. First of all, he went to the customer reviews...which we had never thought about. He studied all the customer reviews from the various companies. After considerable study, he selected this one for us. It is a pleasant surprise. The tech support is excellent, too. My husband and I have to work on computers at our jobs. I am a bookkeeper and he is an attorney. We only know what we have to know for our work, for emails, and for shopping. But after reading the info sheet, it can do so much more...so young people would like it, too. The keyboard is easy to read, even though it's not quite as large as a lap top. The screen is very readable, too. It has a 6 hour battery charge, so we can go wireless when we're out-of town. So, now all we need is a bag to carry it safely in...which we are presently ordering.
