Fantastic Netbook but has a Flawed Keyboard Jul 27, 2010 I bought this netbook based on battery life as reported by its owners and the Asus EEE PC 1005HA did not disappoint. I bought the PU1X version around October of 2009 from Amazon and have been using it primarily as an eBook/eComic reader and multimedia player.
Pros:
-awesome battery life: 9hrs (reading) / 6-7hrs (watching vids);
-great screen;
-good after-service/warranty (see below);
-decent keyboard layout: okay for blogging or documentation (after a short adjustment period... though definitely not for folks with big hands);
Cons:
-weak speakers (even at maximum, my Nokia 5800 phone was louder);
-keyboard problems (see below);
WARNING: --for owners of this netbook & prospective buyers--
After a more than half a year of use, I began having problems with the keyboard. It started with the [Backspace] key not working then [rightShift]+[P] combination did nothing. What was odd was that [leftShift]+[P] worked so I initially thought it was a software issue. Looking online, I didn't find anything so I decided to live with it (at the time I was quite busy).
Last week, other keys started failing and it got bad... more than 10 keys (including the [Enter], [LArrow], & [DnArrow] keys) failed. I contacted a local service center and brought it in. I was shocked to see that there was a pile of 1005HA keyboards on the receptionist's desk.
The technician admitted that it was a problem with the keyboard's manufacturer in China and had said that there was a quiet recall for the product. I filled up some forms, the guy took out the keyboard, and I took home the rest of the netbook. Whole process took 10 minutes so it wasn't too bad. Now I have to wait around 4 weeks for a replacement. At least it's still under warranty.
Bottom line:
I'll still recommend this netbook to any of my friends. However, I would caution them to test the keyboard thoroughly.
PS: I'm still waiting for the replacement part but I can use the netbook with a USB keyboard.
Great little machine for travel! Jul 15, 2010 This little netbook is perfect for travel. It's small & thin enough to slip into any carryon pocket easily, doesn't add extra weight to carry around, and the protective case that comes with it is a plus. I use it to upload pics from my camera, charge my iPhone, access itunes, email, surf the web, etc while I'm traveling. And, it's easy to keep up my business. It's also surprisingly fast. I LOVE the 10+ hour battery-life, and it charges fairly quickly. I frequently have 5-10 hr flights so I don't have to worry about my battery dying mid-flight! My only problem has been that the AC power cord quit working 1 month after I got it, but the company replaced it without a problem.

Great netbook at great price. Jun 22, 2010 For $329 I am very pleased with this netbook. Excellent battery life, up to 10.5 hours. Amazed at the keyboard being barely smaller than a laptop keyboard. The only things that I did not like were the clicker below the touch pad and the touch pad itself. Since it's one single button, you must press the left/right of it for left/right clicks. It is not easy to hold down since it is at an angle. The touch pad is flush against the surface of the netbook so when you're attempting to scroll up/down, left/right it can be frustrating trying to feel for the edge of the pad. I would think that it would be something to get used to, especially after 4 months but it hasn't.
Bad Customer Service... Defective Parts... No Quality Control... Jun 20, 2010 Bought this product in October 2009. Looked nice and worked as expected. Now all of a sudden the keyboard is not working. Type a letter and that letter key just gets pressed for a long period of time.. Essentially making the laptop not useful. Tried calling the Customer Service in India and they are asking for a ridiculous sum of money. The laptop itself was 350 $ when I bought and they are asking for 150 $ to change the keyboard.
Not going to buy anything from this company....
Horrible customer service...
Stay away from Asus products..
Great for videoconferencing Jun 09, 2010 I bought this EeePC for videoconferencing at work. My coworkers bring it to meetings on their end, and I call them using Skype. It's cheaper than any dedicated videoconferencing device that I've seen, but the EeePC is a general-purpose computer. Sometimes my coworkers borrow it for presentations, since it's so portable.
Watch out though! This netbook is so cute that it's tempting for thieves and is easily hidden in a jacket or purse since it's so small. My first one was stolen, so I bought another that I keep locked with a combo lock that only a few coworkers know the combo for.
