I own an Asus Eee PC, and I purchased this external DVD/CD-RW drive so that I can watch DVDs and use software that is installed via CD-ROM. My notebook recognized the device immediately. Even more important, the device gets heavy use and it's standing up to the demands I've put on it beautifully. This is a product I'd recommend highly to anybody looking for an excellent external DVD/CD-RW drive at a modest price!
