4It works !  Oct 04, 2009 By TomatoTimes "Staff"
If you are needing to replace a keyboard, the good news is that this product works.

I had left my new eee PC 901 outside overnight in a light rain. I knew I was in trouble when I poured about 30cc's of water out of the keyboard. I couldn't tell my wife what a nincumpoop I'd been.

So I took the eeePC inside and let it dry for a day, then turned it on and let it run. Amazingly it booted, but no response from the keyboard. After reading a few eee PC websites that said this keyboard couldn't be found, I was amazed to find it on Amazon.

At this point I found that there is a big difference between having a doctoral degree in electrical engineering and being a technician. The technician has the advantage. For one thing, I was unaware that the keyboard ribbon cable contacts are supposed to be covered with plastic. The plastic cover is punctured by metal barbs when the keyboard cable is snapped down in the eee PC. Luckily I did not try to remove the plastic coating. One thing I've learned is to make no equipment alterations until there's no other option.

I found a website[...] that explains how to remove the keyboard. There are no screws, but you must use the point of an Exacto blade to carefully push three springloaded snaps (over F1, F6 and Pause keys) towards the back of the eee PC (not downward as the website says). Nothing else is tiny enough, except maybe atoms.

Be sure and unclamp the black bar that snaps down on the old keyboard cable. It should remove with zero effort.

The new keyboard cable was about 1 mm too wide, so I had to trim excess plastic from the sides of the new keyboard ribbon cable using a sissors. Be careful. Then the ribbon cable slides easily into the motherboard and is clamped back down.

Use the point of the Exacto blade to clamp the cable, nothing else is small enough to push it. I had to try this a few times until I got a good electrical connection. In fact, after snapping down the cable, I tugged gently to help make the connection. I then downloaded, keyboard test software [...] to test all the keys.

Don't re-snap the physical keyboard into the eee PC until you're sure all the keys are working.

I've skipped a step or two that are covered in the eeepcandme.com website I referenced. All this stuff is fragile and being 55, I had to wear reading glasses and use a magnifying lamp to see everything. It took an hour or two the replace the keyboard, but an experienced technician could do it in about 5 minutes because she or he wouldn't have to learn everything from scratch.

5$25 instead of a new notebook  Sep 25, 2010 By Christopher Young
Was really very straightforward to do. Use a blade edge at the top of the keyboard to pop out the old one. Connector is held in by two tabs at the bottom. Lift up the tabs slip out the connector. Remove old keypad. Line up connector from new keypad into the slot at the bottom. Push down the two tabs to hold it in place. Push down on the pad along the top to snap into place. Voila! You are done. Very useful for the inadvertent spills that cause keyboards to short out.

5Fits like Leno in his new time-slot  Jan 31, 2010 By G.C.
Popped the old one out. I had this for a while, so running the risk of passing the no-return date quite high. I gave the old one a bath in the kitchen sink. Did not help. I guess the chocolate-milk had time to settle in and solidify. Watch for the tape that covers the connector -- it is transparent and must come off before assembly. Past that everything went without a hitch. The keyboard is the same as the original -- as far as I can tell. Would buy again from this Amazon merchant.

5Good  Jul 11, 2011 By J.
Got the white version for the black eee901 fits perfectly, looks good, 2min to setup and the netbook has a new feel when pressing the keys. The white keys are easier to see in the dark. Overall satisfied.

5ASUS Eee netbook keyboard  Feb 28, 2011 By kandy
This is an excellent item! My 2 yr old pulled many keys off my netbook. This is a very affordable quick fix. It was so simple to remove the old & install the new 1. I think it took 2 minutes tops! It's like having a brand-new netbook! It fits perfectly on the 900hd model. I am not sure what others were talking about when they said it didn't fit. All u have to do is press each of the 3 little springs at the top to release the old keyboard. I used a small pocket knife. When you lift the keyboard out you will see a strip and you must detatch it. Then simply attach the new strip & place the new keyboard. I really can't believe how easy this was!!! Oh & also in perfect BRAND NEW condition. Not a spec of anything on it, so I'm not sure what that review was about either. Love it! Strongly recommend! Seriously saved me hundreds of dollars!
