Piece of garbage - Cheap - You get what you pay for. Feb 11, 2011
By kevin P thomas I bought this item to work on a small compact pc that came with no hard drive. I plugged it in and it whirred and whirred and the disc never started spinning. Tried to eject the disc and it would not eject. had to use a paper clip to eject with the emergency hole. Did not risk another disc.
It is cheaply made, the cables are very short and very poor quality and the instructions are worthless.
Not only that plugged it into my USB port on my home pc and now the USB plugs at the front of my unit will not work.
Do not waste your money

At first I really liked this device. It worked for the exact reasons I bought it. I haven't used it in some time and now it doesn't work. I'll put a disc in and it won't locate it. I'm still 50/50 on it, but I will be buying a new brand.

I purchased the 24x Powered external cd-Rom drive in order to have a way of using the Asus support DVD.(Asus 1000HE,2gb ram) When I received this product it ran perfectly with CD's but would not recognize or run a dvd (the format of the Asus support DVD).The box it came in said CD-rom and DVD on it but no software or drvers came with it. I could not find any on the Asus or Micrososft website and even the IS people at work could not make it function. If Amazon is going to put it on the ASUS page with the implication that it will run Asus software then why won't it run!. I would apopreciate anyones help. 24x USB External Slim CD-ROM Drive (Black)

I purchased this optical drive because of the low price but it isn't even worth a penny. I had the same problem as others; it wouldn't spin the disk and my computer wouldn't recognize the disk to install but it said it was working. I wasted an hour of my life that I won't be getting back on trying to make it work. I am returning it an buying a drive with a name I know even if it does cost a little more. You get what you pay for.

Wanted to load my Windows Office 2002 that is compatible with my Dell Laptop with Windows XP so that all files would be interchangeable. The critical reviews from others on this product caused initial hesitation that turned out to be unwarranted. The quality is as good and sturdy as any "built-in" I've ever had.
