Nice, but I paid too much Jul 24, 2010 Delivery of this product was very quick, I was impressed. The unit works ok, but the lightscribe feature is impaired. Images are not inscribing. found out the unit is a discontinued unit. I could have found it for half of what I paid. I am trying to get updated fix for the lightscribe, but the software is three generations old. Doggone it!
Better than nothing. Apr 17, 2010 Netbooks do not have built in CD/DVD drives, but this will resolve that inequity rather nicely. You will be able to boot, read, and write CD/DVD media of all kinds. It works on any computer with an extra USB port. Don't try to connect it to a hub though; it has to be connected to its own USB port. It's also very light weight. I've had mine for over a year and it seems to travel well.
Worked a couple of times then it didn't Apr 08, 2010
I bought this because my DVD drive in my laptop stopped working and rather than replacing it, for the occasional use it made sense to buy an external drive. The unit worked out of the box, but a few weeks later (after no additional use) stopped working. I even bought a $30 AC adapter, thinking this was the issue but that had no effect. It is now dead.
Perfect companion for a net-book Feb 15, 2010 This small USB powered DVD burner with lightscribe is the perfect companion for any netbook/notebook that doesn't have build in burner/reader.
LG Slimline DVD Re-Writer Nov 13, 2009 Purchased one of these about two months ago to accompany my Acer Aspire One.
I have successfully used it with both Windows XP, and with Ubuntu Jaunty and Karmic.
I have found no issues with the operation of it, although I did have to go searching for Lightscribe drivers for Windows. (I expected to have to do so for Linux).
It comes with two USB cables; one for data and another for power, although I've not had to use the second power cable yet at all.
I would certainly recommend this unit without any hesitation.
