It works, burns without a power adapter at 4x, for higher speeds, use the usb power adapter (with another hub, not the same next to the one you're using). Note that some motherboards doesn't have enough power, but only in rare cases. I think the other guy received a bad unit, that was not my case.

By BIC I got more than I bargained for with this little gem! It burns ALL TYPES OF CD/DVD. Where your built-in drive fails, this little gem NEVER fails. The lightscribe is excellent! It even burns faster than my built-in drive on my HP. When I want to copy many discs I plug it in so it can be used as my target-drive while the built-in drive will be used as the source-drive. This is really, really good! Buy it, you won't regret it!

By Kevin Antonucci Great player! It's everything you would expect, well atleast what I would expect from a portable DVD player. My only complaint would be the one side of the USB cable attaching to the DVD player itself tends to be lose fitting and therefore will sometimes fall out if you are moving the player around.

By Chris Fisher I got this for my girlfriend's Asus EEpc (1000h?) - it was problematic from the first use. I don't know if we just got a bad one or what, but it got returned immediately. Replaced it with a "nu external super slim DVD burner".
