Description
It goes without saying that netbook such as acer aspire one and ASUS Eee PC are very popular these days. This trend has changed the notebook product roadmap in the coming year. Now net-top or mini-desktop have just been launched by ASUS and some other brands. This nettop such as Eee BOX is compact sized and trendy looking without built in DVD burners. It will be future mainstream for desktop as well.In such a scenario, it stands to reason that nettop users might need to have extra external slim DVD burners like NU ESW846 for CD/DVD playing and burning use. This ESW846 External USB2.0 SuperSlim SuperMulti drive combines all the functions of a DVD player, DVD recorder, CD player and CD recorder into one lightweight, portable design that fits in your notebook! It is the perfect accessory for the mobile professional who needs to access data. Advanced slot in design protects your media from the dust. The most important feature is that it burns every disc format you can find in the world.

Excellent and mobile Jul 25, 2010 This is a very compact, terrific DVD. It's two cables hook into the computer and is powered by it. That alone is great, however it's ease of use and portability are wonderful. This little unit exceeded my expectations.
Works as Advertised Mar 07, 2010 I purchased this drive to use with my net book. I needed it to load software from CD's and DVD's. It worked perfectly with my printer software. I also made a bootable disc for my net book. And though I probably won't have many occasions to watch DVD's on my net book, I tried it just to see how it worked, and it worked great!
It is small enough to fit in the side pocket of the slim line padded bag I got to carry my net book around in, and adds very little weight. I could see how this drive would be perfect for a student or someone like me who needs a CD/DVD drive once in awhile.
I can't speak to its durability and I don't know if it would hold up to heavy usage, but its compact design and ease of use makes it perfect for my needs. I gave it 4 stars because it is on the expensive side.
A safe choice Mar 05, 2010 My PC does not have a burner feature in its' CD player so I sent for this unit. I plugged it into a USB port, and my Linux-Ubuntu system accepted it without any problem.
Slim USB External Drive Quick and Easy Nov 02, 2009 I bought this to use with an Acer Netbook and it was very easy just plug in and use. It also shipped very fast.

Didn't work Oct 05, 2009 Couldn't get drive to burn disks. It might just be defective--it does make a loud, grinding noise at times that definitely doesn't sound right. But I also noted in one or more of the earlier reviews someone saying the drive wouldn't burn disks when it was powered by USB only but that it was okay because you could "plug it in" and then it would work. The message I get when I try to burn a disc doesn't reference a lack of sufficient power but, rather, suggests that I am not using a functional disk. I assumed, based on the earlier reviews, that the drive came with a power cord. However, mine did not. I thought that perhaps the power cord was just missing, but I looked at "Package Contents" on the box, and it did not mention any power adaptor or power cord. There is a reference in the manual to the fact that the drive might not work on USB power alone in which case you have to buy a power adapter that conforms to the product's technical specs. I certainly wasn't expecting that. As far as I'm concerned, a product should come with whatever equipment is necessary to perform the basic functions for which it was purchased. The product manual is not helpful in troubleshooting. In fact, it is so slim on information that you can't even determine, from reading the manual, the direction that the disk goes in. I had to figure that out from looking at the picture on the box. The USB cord is odd, too--there are TWO USB plugs--one piggy-backed to the other. According to the manual, you have to plug both in. I've never had an electrical device that had to be plugged into TWO USB ports on a computer at the same time. It's possible that if I went out and found a compatible power cord, I might be able to get the drive to work. However, since I don't know if that's the problem combined with the fact that it makes a funny noise--and my strong conviction that the product should work the way it comes without having to go out and buy more stuff--I am giving up and returning it. I hope others have better luck than me. I think this may be the first product I've ever returned on Amazon--after years of regular purchases.
