5One of the better Netbooks I've used.  Mar 07, 2011 By SonicSculptor "SonicSculptor"
We own a couple of netbooks in our house. This one is a little better. Build quality is very good and the screen looks nice. Doesn't feel cheap. I have no problems streaming video over the web, as long as I do not use HD. Non-HD Netflix works great, with only a small glitch maybe in the beginning. Remember 1080HD is 2140x1080 or so? in pixels. This screen is only 1024x600. Window performance rating index is about a 2.4 out of the box. Adding 1GB more memory and 8GB of ready boost(in the SD slot, 8GB SD card was in the box with all 3 of mine) helps quite a bit. Samsung add-ons are actually nice, simple tools that aren't pc hungry, approriate for a netbook. Screen is scalable above it's max resolution. Allowing you to at least see the whole screen when needed, although a bit squished. Battery life is rated at a max of 9.7 hours. I get 6+hrs on an 80% charge and good use the whole time. (80%=battery life saving feature). It'll sleep for 3+ days on 80% battery. Samsung 'fast start' gets you from sleep to working in 3-5 seconds. Audio is decent and reasonably loud.
Mine have Intel Atom N455 processor @1.67Ghz Hyper-threaded(1 core, 2 logical), 1GB DDR3 Memory, GMA 3150 Graphics(?64mb dedicated & up to 192mb shared= 256mb max) Although a little slow. These little powerhouses will do 90% of what most common folks use a pc for: web surfing/shopping/streaming/WEB games, email, social ntw, word processing. I think people forget just how much a pc with these specs can accomplish.

I'll finish saying, Samsung has been slow to get info/support online for this unit to date. I can't even register it yet. I also am having a hard time nailing down a memory upgrade. Time should fix this.

Overall good product. If you have a link for a Samsung n145-jp02, 2GB DDR3 memory module; please leave the link in a comment. :)

4Pretty nice little computer!  Mar 04, 2011 By B. Carr
OK, here goes. First of all, I did not purchase this on Amazon. I won it in a contest. The Samsung JP-02 is a netbook. It is not a laptop or notebook, and if you were expecting one, then this is not for you. For basic web surfing, email, and watching videos this is very well suited. I do not play games on it but would not expect that it would be powerful enough for most of the popular ones. Just as with any computer, it has it's strengths and weaknesses. First off, although it will play videos from youtube, wimp etc., it is not powerful enough to watch TV shows or movies that are streamed on the net. Secondly, it is only 1.6 GH for the processor, so it will not do very labor intensive tasks. Thirdly, it only comes with a 250 GB harddrive. Your best bets would be to use a security program like Micro Soft Security Essentials, which does not consume huge amounts of power and although it is free, it is competent and does the job. I would also not worry about upgrading the Windows 7 starter to the full blown Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade. Also, one upgrade that I did not do yet but which is worth it, is upgrade your ram to 2 GB. There is only 1 GB that comes with it. Open the bottom of the case and pull out the ram chip. Be careful not to break it. Look underneath and it will tell you whether to add DDR2 or DDR3. Get the proper ram, and buy it from Amazon. If you buy it in the stores, it will cost double or triple. Also it does not come with a DVD drive. I do not own one yet, but I am sure it will be fast enough watch movies from the DVD. Also, save some space and take out the bloatware (games and trial software) you do not need.

If you buy a laptop/notebook in this price range, you get nothing more than the same specs with a larger, more pixilated screen.

I would venture to say that, although I do not have children, I think this little netbook, would work fine for them.

Pros:
Sturdy
Nice keyboard
Fast enough
Great price
Nice software
Tiny size
Non-glare screen

Cons:
Too slow for streaming

I know that Amazon will probably delete this, but the ram upgrade is crucial CT1881706, which they do not sell.

4Nice Netbook!  Mar 06, 2011 By Peter Greene
Unlike the previous review, I use this little gem for streaming all the time. Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime and YouTube all work just fine. Occasionally the very beginning of a video will be a tad jerky until the hard drive settles down. Hitting pause and having a minute of patience makes all the difference.

This netbook feels quite solid. The trackpad, while a bit small for my taste, works very well and I rarely bother to hook up a mouse. So far battery life has been excellent and I have plenty of power to spare after 4 or 5 hours of solid use. I haven't let the battery go to see how long it will last as I haven't had the opportunity yet. Based on my experience though, the battery seems pretty stout.

It has an ethernet port which comes in handy when trying to set up a new router. The wireless has been dependable from day one.

The only problem I've had is that the 8Gb SD card that was shipped with mine was DOA. Customer Support has yet to send me a replacement.

4Great for schoolwork and web browsing  Mar 16, 2011 By Chung Hwa
I looked around at netbooks a while before settling on this Samsung. It was on sale, so I gave it a shot. I've had it for over a month, and I am still happy with my purchase. I use it mainly for school work (word processing, powerpoint, etc.) and web browsing.

Because it is a netbook, the processor isn't going to be as powerful as many desktop computers. It took me a week or two to get used to programs booting up slower, but once they've started everything runs fine.

I am very happy with the battery life. I usually turn it on at 10 am and it still has 10% power left at 10 pm. It also charges relatively quickly, so I've never had to worry about the battery running out on me when I'm in the middle of something. It is light, definitely lighter than my school books. I barely notice it when it's in my backpack.

I really like the keyboard on this netbook. It helps that I have small hands, but I find it's easy to type. It's spacious enough that I don't feel cramped or even sore after typing for a while. I rarely press a button that I don't mean to.

I watch TV online about an hour or two everyday, and the speakers are okay. I've had worse laptop speakers. The sound quality is fine, but the volume is just too low. I would definitely recommend using headphones with this netbook.

I also recommend buying a mouse for use with this netbook. Oftentimes when I'm scrolling using the touchpad, I will click on items I didn't mean to. It can get a little messy and frustrating, but using a mouse clears up all of these issues.

PROs:
+ Price, $50 cheaper than most other netbooks in the same class
+ Battery life, with screen power at 70%, it lasts almost all day
+ Easy to use, spacious keyboard and plenty of function keys (volume, sleep mode, etc.)

CONs:
+ Aesthetically unattractive, though this is not necessarily a problem, many people want cool looking laptops like the Apple brand. You won't find that with this Samsung.
+ Trackpad, sometimes unresponsive and sometimes over-responsive!

Overall, I am very happy with this Samsung. It gets the job done well. It is reasonably priced, has a good battery life, and is straight-forward and easy to use. I would definitely recommend this product to other college students who bring computers on campus and don't want to worry about finding an outlet!

5Very Pleased  Apr 17, 2011 By BryGuy
Well ive had this netbook for about 3 weeks now, and ive been very happy with it since i took it out of the box. Build quality is superb and durable. The battery life on this is very impressive. I can charge it up over-night and take it to the office with me and i have enough battery( on samsung optimized battery settings) to last me my entire 8hr shift, which is really cool, ive never had to bring my charger with. Speed is not bad either, i havent upgraded to the 2gb ram yet, something i will do along with the windows 7 home upgrade, but for now its doing just fine for what i use it for. I have a very well built desktop at home to take care of heavier tasks like music downloading, porn, etc. lol. The 1gb is doing fairly well so far, so disregard everyone elses comments about it being next to useless without it. Just remember it takes a few extra seconds for it to compute things (its compact ya know) but i do recommend the upgrades, windows 7 starter just sucks ass and youll see why... Speaking of compact, the fact i can take this ANYWHERE without it feeling like luggage (regular laptop) is awesome. I can tether my phones 3G internet to the wifi receiver built into this which makes it even better because i can go on the internet with this just about ANYWHERE! The screen is nice, and not glossy which makes for easy viewing in sunlight.

Pros:
Well built
Attractive, black version is good for the manly man like me.
Almost full size keyboard for easier typing.
Excellent portability.
Excellent WIFI capability.
Fairly quick with only 1GB.
Very quick to boot from sleep mode (samsung special feature)
Its a samsung not some walmart brand.

Cons:
Sometimes when i type, i manage to move the cursor to a different area and that pisses me off, idk what im hitting, probably the track pad. Anyone else have that issue?

If youve been looking to by this netbook, go and do it. I promise youll love it.
