I'm no expert in this area and was just looking for an inexpensive, compact, external drive to back up some files with ease. It's quiet, compact (roughly size of iPhone), relatively quick for USB interface, and even comes with decent backup software. It does not have a separate power source so all you need is a USB cord to use it. There are nonslip pads on the bottom of the device as well. Very well constructed. I am very pleased with the Transcend drive so far.
