No extra AC power cord needed. My DVD player in my laptop went out and the laptop manufacturer wanted $450 for an in-case proprietary replacement. I use the DVD player a lot on the plane and unless I'm in first class, don't have power. This one runs off the USB power. It's very slim and not bulky. Just what I needed. I only have one question. Why don't they sell this thing in computer retail stores. It's a winner!

Using in 60 seconds Feb 12, 2008
By James Turner My Dell desktop cd-drive stopped working and I needed to install Turbotax. I ordered the Targus based upon mostly positive reviews and the fact it didnt need a power cord.
I received the drive in 2 days from Amazon, and from the time I opened the Targus box, I was installing turbotax in less than 60 seconds! The product works as advertised with no hassles at all. Strongly recommend.

By Island Shopper I was so pleased to have a CD ROM drive again (the one built in to my computer died ages ago). This little number is great! Absolutley reliable, perfect XP compatibility, and the USB connection makes it so easy -- no extra power cords.

I use this with my Acer Aspire One Netbook because it didn't come with a DVD/CD drive. This works wonderfully. DVDs play just fine. I can play/burn/rip CDs. It's very reliable.
